Rosetta Tax is a boutique law firm, specialising in providing high quality, cost-effective tax advice to businesses and professional services firms.
Their flexible and effective solution relies on technology to deliver a streamlined service without the traditional law firm infrastructure. The firm’s tax lawyers are a mixture of barristers and solicitors, who all collaborate closely to deliver a seamless, cross-disciplinary service.
Beyond the typical Office applications, the firm relied heavily on one third-party application, a legal practice management solution from leading software provider, Cognito.
Rosetta Tax decided to use a cloud-based solution for their systems, which were to be hosted by another IT specialist third party as it offers the anytime, anywhere, any device remote access capability the firm’s fee-earners were seeking. Although the system was successfully implemented, the firm soon experienced a range of frustrating problems, including slow sign-on and running speeds.
Looking for answers, the firm attended the LegalEx show and explained their issues to our professional services team.
Following on from our discussion at LegalEx, we undertook a review of the existing service, including a full network optimisation audit. This often overlooked process will not only highlight issues our client is aware of, but can reveal problems that are not so obvious to the untrained eye.
Unfortunately the platform assigned to Rosetta Tax by their IT partner was not ideal for Rosetta’s needs. With our Qcloud hosted desktop solution, the firm’s fee-earners have the necessary access to their applications and data from anywhere, at any time, with any device; access is available even on the slowest of internet connections.
We are now responsible for providing the virtual servers, backup and disaster recovery, firewalls and security, hosted e-mail and all email security, storage for all third party apps and a network drive to share between users. For added peace of mind for this UK-based law firm, we host the entire system in our data centre in Tamworth, in the heart of the Midlands.
One big advantage of a hosted desktop solution is the ability to increase or decrease users easily with software supplied on a Services Provider License Agreement (SPLA) basis. This not only ensures clients have the latest version of Microsoft products, but that all essential updates and patches are installed immediately, across the firm, without risking compatibility issues when installing manually on individual machines.
Our Citrix-based platform allows end users to access their hosted desktop infrastructure via a simple URL, with password protection. There are no difficult VPN settings or Terminal Server sessions and each user can access the local ports and peripherals of their machine to allow local printing, scanning, etc.
Rosetta Tax now has a resilient, robust and reliable IT system that reflects the quality service they deliver for their clients. Fee-earners can now communicate and collaborate more easily, from anywhere, at any time, helping increase productivity and efficiency. The new email service, with advanced anti-spam filters, helps improve connectivity and removes unnecessary administration jobs from users.
Accessing the full Office suite of applications via the virtual desktop infrastructure helps future-proof Rosetta Tax, with upgrades and patches automatically implemented to ensure every desktop receives the most up-to-date version. One single roll-out, undertaken by our engineers in our hosting centre reduces the risk of the business accidentally introducing a whole range of compatibility issues if they have to make changes to lots of individual machines.
The installation proved successful, attracting the attention of Cognito, who also appreciate our experience working with independent software vendors like them. We have worked with many ISV’s and have an innovative approach to hosting their products to ensure they become true Cloud-based applications.
