Your responsibilities involve testing the integrity and performance of various information networks and software applications. And to be successful, you’ve got to be able to identify and implement new technologies which enhance the long-term operational and strategic goals of your organisation.
The extension of your duties means supervising and directing the workflow of any number of teams of people, loosely connected to core IT services within your organisation. As a manager you will also be a consultant to the senior board for developing and applying information technology policies and standards.
It is also your responsibility to develop the training to help employees understand how to make the best use of technology, including exploiting applications efficiently and effectively. You will be called upon to hold regular training sessions that help remind all employees of the most effective ways to make use of the electronic tools available to them – some of it will stick one day.
If there is a need for software upgrades then you will see to it these are installed, after first checking compatibility with every device on the network. When questions are raised about your server infrastructure, you will undoubtedly defend it, before checking it one more time. When the uninitiated extol the virtues of the Cloud, without really understanding, you will patiently explain the pros and cons, whilst awaiting the next challenge – and always with a smile.
You will negotiate with vendors for the appropriate technology, equipment and supplies, making the necessary recommendations to senior management regarding purchases and adoption of technology – with your reputation on the line. And don’t even mention printers, copiers and phones.
Our understanding comes from experience and we’re confident we can help. Get in touch for a frank discussion of your requirements, or tell us the type of organisation you work for and we’ll demonstrate a little more of our understanding.
